The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has announced that the country has welcomed more than 900,000 international tourists in the first five months of 2026, signaling a continued recovery in the tourism sector.

According to data released by the authority, a total of 904,855 tourist arrivals were recorded between January 1 and May 6 this year.

India remained the largest source market, contributing 200,796 visitors, highlighting strong regional travel demand. The United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, and China also ranked among the leading countries of origin, collectively accounting for a significant share of arrivals.

The SLTDA noted that the steady inflow reflects improving global travel confidence and Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to rebuild its tourism industry following recent challenges.

Tourism officials expect the upward trend to continue into the mid-year season, supported by promotional campaigns and increased air connectivity to the island.
