The State of Public Emergency in Sri Lanka has been extended by a further one month following a directive issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The relevant gazette extraordinary was issued by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Kumanayake, confirming the extension.

Authorities said the decision was taken in light of the ongoing disaster situation caused by Cyclone ‘Ditwah’, with the aim of ensuring public safety, maintaining normalcy, and safeguarding the continuous supply of essential services across the country.

Meanwhile, the government has also extended the gazette notification declaring a range of services as essential. These include electricity supply, the distribution of petroleum products and gas, healthcare services, and public transportation.

The extension ensures that institutions under state corporations, government departments, local authorities, and cooperative societies continue to operate without disruption during the emergency period.
