The incident, which has since circulated widely on social media, allegedly shows the MP brandishing a firearm during an argument with a woman over a disputed plot of land. It was reported that Archchuna had been engaged in clearing the land when two women arrived at the location, claiming ownership of a portion of the property, leading to a tense verbal altercation.
The MP was arrested by Ilavalai Police this morning (27) on charges of criminal force at gunpoint and unlawful entry.
Responding to the allegations prior to his arrest, Archchuna claimed that the group had entered the property and disrupted his work, and that stones were thrown at him during the confrontation. He further stated that he used his personal firearm, reportedly issued by the Defence Ministry, due to concerns for his safety and in an attempt to bring the situation under control.
