According to the department, the advisory covers the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Mannar, and Vavuniya districts.
The warning, which remains in effect until 11.30 pm, indicates that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected at certain locations after 2.00 pm.
Authorities have issued Red alerts for 16 districts and Amber alerts for 9 districts during this period.
The Meteorology Department also cautioned that temporary strong, localized winds may occur during thundershowers and urged the public to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of lightning-related damage.
