A joint declaration advocating peace, issued by the Mahanayake Theros of Sri Lanka’s three Buddhist chapters, was formally presented to foreign ambassadors at a ceremony held at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo.

The statement, released with the support of the Presidential Secretariat, calls for global peace and unity amid ongoing conflicts affecting several nations around the world. The initiative reflects Sri Lanka’s religious leadership taking an active role in promoting harmony on the international stage.

The presentation event was attended by several senior Anunayake Theros, including Venerable Niyangoda Vijithasiri, Venerable Wedaruwe Upali, Venerable Trincomalee Ananda, and Venerable Ankubure Premavansa.

Chief Incumbent of the Gangaramaya Temple, Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero, addressed the gathering and outlined the objectives of the declaration, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in fostering peace and reconciliation globally.

Diplomatic representatives from countries affected by war were present to receive the declaration, marking a symbolic gesture of solidarity and a call for renewed commitment to peaceful resolutions.
