The peace march began yesterday morning (26) from Tholangamuwa National School and reached Yakkala Abesekararamaya by night. Organizers and devotees took special measures to reduce the discomfort caused by the heated roads, laying banana leaves and cloth along the road to support the participating Buddhist monks.
Devotees gathered in large numbers along the road to offer flowers and pay homage to the Maha Sangha, creating a large of deep religious reverence. The event stands out for its strong message of religious harmony and peace, with participation not only from Buddhists but also from members of other religious and ethnic communities, including interfaith leaders.
A special discussion involving schoolchildren and university students is scheduled for tomorrow (28) at 11:00 a.m. at Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara. Following this, the peace walk will continue from Kelaniya to Independence Square.
At 4:00 p.m., a state ceremony will be held at Independence Square under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. During the event, a sapling of the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree will be officially handed over to Ven. Pannakara Thero and representatives.
The final part of the walk will resume at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at Gangaramaya Temple by 7:00 p.m.
