According to the advisory, the heat index which reflects how hot it feels on the human body is expected to reach “caution level” in parts of the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Monaragala District during daytime hours.
Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize health risks associated with the heat. People are advised to drink plenty of water, rest in shaded areas whenever possible, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Special attention has been drawn to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, those with existing health conditions, and young children. The public is strongly advised not to leave children unattended inside vehicles.
In addition, residents are encouraged to limit strenuous outdoor activities and to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing to cope with the high temperatures.
The Department of Meteorology continues to monitor the situation and requests the public to stay informed and follow safety guidelines.
