The court ordered his release on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and a personal bond of Rs. 1 million. The Magistrate also directed that the suspect’s foreign passport be impounded.
In addition, the court warned that any attempt to interfere with or influence witnesses would lead to the cancellation of bail.
Jayasekara had been taken into custody following a complaint alleging that he threatened an individual by brandishing a pistol during an altercation between two groups. The incident is reported to have occurred while he was visiting Nuwara Eliya with family members.
He was subsequently arrested by officers of the Crimes Investigation Division attached to the Nuwara Eliya Police.
The case is scheduled to be taken up again on October 9.
