A World Health Organization (WHO) expert team has arrived in Sri Lanka to assess the country’s health system and provide recommendations for further improvement. The delegation met Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa on April 20 to discuss current healthcare performance and ongoing reforms.

The discussions focused on the government’s programme to establish 1,000 Arogya Health and Wellness Centres aimed at strengthening primary healthcare services. The initiative targets better control of non-communicable diseases, early disease detection, and improved access to community-level healthcare.

Minister Jayatissa also highlighted plans to digitalise primary healthcare services and outlined pilot project achievements and challenges. The WHO team will remain in the country until April 24 to continue its review.
