An experienced academic with a strong background in both local and international research and higher education, Prof. Dayaratna Banda previously served as Senior Professor of Economics at the University of Peradeniya.
Over the years, he has held several important administrative roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Peradeniya between 2015 and 2021. He has also served as Dean of the Faculty of Management at Uva Wellassa University.
He earned his PhD from the National University of Singapore and holds a first-class honours degree in Financial Economics from the University of Peradeniya.
In addition, he has undertaken visiting research roles at internationally recognized institutions such as the University of Waterloo and has published extensively in academic journals.
With research expertise in applied macroeconomics, trade, finance, and economic development, he is expected to contribute towards strengthening education policy and advancing teacher training systems in Sri Lanka.
