The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has unanimously decided that any additional costs arising from coal-related issues will not be passed on to electricity consumers through tariff revisions.

According to the Commission, only reasonable costs associated with electricity generation, transmission, and distribution will be considered when determining electricity tariff adjustments.

PUCSL further emphasized that in previous tariff revisions, it had not approved any extra costs incurred due to coal supply issues or other unreasonable expenses. The Commission reiterated that such costs will continue to be excluded from future tariff proposals as well.

The decision aims to protect consumers from bearing financial burdens caused by inefficiencies or unforeseen complications in coal procurement and supply.
