Speaking at the meeting, the Chief Sangha Leader of the North Central Province and Chief Incumbent of Thanthirimale Rajamaha Viharaya, Venerable Thanthirimale Chandarathana Nayake Thero, stressed that the support and cooperation of all stakeholders are essential to successfully organize this year’s Poson celebrations.
The Poson Festival week is scheduled to take place from June 26 to July 2, 2026. District officials also highlighted that despite the current challenges facing the country, all government officers are expected to contribute beyond their formal duties and actively support the successful आयोजन of the event.
Additional discussions focused on minimizing threats from wild elephants, removing crocodiles from ponds in the area, and reducing waste and polythene usage to ensure environmental protection.
It was further noted that the use of lotus leaves for serving food, which proved successful in previous years for devotees observing Sil, could be extended to Dansal distribution as an eco-friendly alternative.
The meeting was attended by members of the Maha Sangha, Additional District Secretary Sandhya Abeysekara, Divisional Secretary Sureetha Perera, the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha, along with representatives from government institutions and civil organizations.
