The Sri Lanka Police has issued a public advisory warning homeowners to remain alert and take precautions against burglaries as temperatures rise.

With the heat prompting many residents to leave windows and doors open at night for ventilation, police cautioned that such practices could provide opportunities for criminals.

Under the theme “Cool your home, but ensure your security,” authorities emphasized that comfort should not come at the expense of safety. Homeowners are advised to make sure all necessary security measures are in place before going to bed.

Key recommendations include installing strong metal grills on windows left open, double-checking that all doors and gates are securely locked, and keeping outdoor areas well-lit to deter intruders.

Residents are also urged to stay vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station.
