The ceremony marking the inclusion of the sacred Bodhi tree in the heritage list was held with great grandeur. This event is considered historic, as it marks the first time a religious artifact has been recognized and listed as part of Australia’s national heritage.
The event was attended by the Chief Incumbent of Bodhi Dhamma Vihara and Atamasthana Chief Sanghanayaka, Venerable Palleagama Hemarathana Thero, along with members of the Maha Sangha.
Dignitaries present included the Premier of Victoria, Jacinta Allan, and the Speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Maree Edwards, among others.
This recognition highlights the growing acknowledgment of multicultural and religious heritage within Australia and strengthens cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Australia.
