The Lanka Coal Company said that coal shipments under an emergency procurement plan will begin arriving in Sri Lanka from April 20.

According to General Manager Namal Hewage, a total of five vessels are scheduled to reach the country between April 20 and May 10. Each shipment will carry approximately 60,000 metric tons of coal, sourced from South Africa.

The company, which maintains an ongoing supply agreement with the Norochcholai Power Plant, has already delivered 13 coal shipments under its regular supply operations.

Hewage further noted that agreements have been finalized for four additional shipments to be delivered in the future, ensuring continued fuel supply for power generation.
