According to the SLTDA, a total of 692,744 tourists visited Sri Lanka between January 1 and March 22. This marks a significant influx of international travelers during the early months of the year, reflecting the country’s continued appeal as a top travel destination in South Asia.
Indian tourists accounted for the largest share of arrivals, with 135,070 visitors recorded during this period. The proximity between India and Sri Lanka, along with strong cultural and economic ties, continues to make India a leading source market for tourism.
In addition to India, Sri Lanka has attracted a substantial number of visitors from several other key markets, including the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, and China. These countries have consistently contributed to Sri Lanka’s tourism growth, with travelers drawn to its beaches, cultural heritage sites, and natural landscapes.
Industry analysts note that the steady rise in arrivals reflects improved global travel confidence and Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to promote tourism through marketing campaigns and infrastructure development.
With the peak travel seasons still ahead, authorities remain optimistic that 2026 could be a record-breaking year for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector.
