Iranian foreign minister thanks Sri Lanka for assistance after IRIS Dena incident

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, held a telephone conversation with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath on Thursday (13).

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi said he briefed the Sri Lankan minister on the latest developments following what he described as military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan government for its assistance in rescuing crew members of the Iranian warship IRIS Dena who were affected during the incident.

He further thanked Sri Lanka for facilitating the repatriation of the bodies of 84 crew members to Iran.

During the conversation, the two ministers also discussed bilateral relations and reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Iran and Sri Lanka.
