Pakistan declares ‘open war’ on Afghanistan, fighter jets bomb Kabul

Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Kabul, Nasser Shadid, reported multiple explosions in the Afghan capital beginning from about 1:50am local time (21:20 GMT, Thursday).

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif wrote in a post on X that it is now “open war” between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government.AlJazeera reported.

Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah ⁠Mujahid wrote in a post on X that Afghanistan was carrying out “large-scale offensive operations” against the Pakistani military “along the Durand Line” that separates both countries.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement that Islamabad had “always sought peace” but the armed forces will now “firmly confront any aggression”.
