Showers will occur at times in Uva Province, Central Province and Eastern Province, as well as in the Polonnaruwa District. Fairly heavy rainfall of about 75 mm is likely at some places in Uva Province and in the districts of Matale District, Batticaloa District, Ampara District and Polonnaruwa.

Several spells of showers are also expected in Northern Province and in the districts of Anuradhapura District and Hambantota District.

Elsewhere across the island, showers or thundershowers may develop at several locations after 1.00 p.m.

Windy and Misty Conditions

Fairly strong winds of 30–40 kmph can be expected at times over Northern, North Central Province and North Western Province, and in the districts of Matale, Trincomalee District and Hambantota.

Misty conditions are likely during the early morning in parts of Central and Sabaragamuwa Province, as well as in Galle District and Matara District.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Areas Forecast (Next 24 Hours)

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Trincomalee via Hambantota and Batticaloa. A few showers or thundershowers may also occur in other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly with speeds of 30–40 kmph, increasing up to 50 kmph at times in sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The sea areas from Colombo to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, will be fairly rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will remain moderate.

Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised to remain attentive to future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology, as temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
