LOEU Secretary D.C. Edirisinghe stated that the strike is in protest against the government’s decision to start training a group of military officers as train drivers. The move was discussed at a recent meeting for newly recruited train drivers.
The union has strongly opposed the decision and decided to take industrial action to voice its objections to the inclusion of military personnel in the train driver training program.
