CEB proposes 13.56% electricity tariff hike

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has submitted a proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka seeking approval for a 13.56% increase in electricity tariffs for the second quarter of this year.

The proposed revision is set to apply from April 1 to June 30.

Under the proposal, the tariff for the first 0–30 units, currently charged at Rs. 4.50 per unit, is expected to rise to Rs. 5.11. The rate for units 31–60 is proposed to increase from Rs. 8.00 to Rs. 9.08 per unit.

For units 61–90, the existing charge of Rs. 18.50 per unit is set to increase to Rs. 21.01. The tariff for units 91–120, currently Rs. 24.00, is proposed to be revised to Rs. 27.25 per unit.

Meanwhile, the rate for units 121–180 is expected to increase from Rs. 41.00 to Rs. 46.56 per unit. For consumption exceeding 181 units, the current charge of Rs. 61.00 per unit is proposed to be raised to Rs. 69.27.

The proposal is currently under review by the Public Utilities Commission.
