Sri Lanka Police has announced a comprehensive security and traffic management plan ahead of the high-profile T20 World Cup 2026 match between Pakistan and India, scheduled to be held in Colombo on Sunday, February 15.

Addressing a special media briefing, Police Spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler said the arrangements are being implemented under the direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow. The match will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium (Khettarama) and is set to begin at 7.00 p.m., with gates opening to spectators at 3.00 p.m.

More than 400 traffic police officers will be deployed in and around the stadium to manage vehicular movement. Authorized vehicles with valid passes issued by Sri Lanka Cricket will be permitted entry via Khettarama Junction and Wilson Perera Mawatha to access Gates 1 and 2.

For general spectators, several designated parking areas have been arranged, including Grandpass Matti Park, Sathosa Car Park, St. Sebastian Canal Road, Kovil Road and “Apple Watta,” as well as the Railway Department grounds. In addition, special shuttle bus services will operate from the Port City and MD car parks to facilitate convenient transport to and from the stadium.

Police also announced temporary road closures and restricted access on several roads surrounding the venue to prioritize pedestrian safety. These include Wilson Perera Mawatha (Grandpass Road), parts of Babapulle Mawatha, and Maligawatta Road. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes and follow traffic instructions issued by officers on duty.

Strict security measures will be in place at all entry points. Every spectator will be subject to body checks and monitoring through CCTV surveillance. Police have enforced a zero-tolerance policy on prohibited items. Helmets, jackets, large travel bags, glass bottles, alcoholic beverages, knives, sharp objects, drones, electronic devices, and musical instruments will not be allowed inside the stadium.

ASP Wootler urged the public to conduct themselves responsibly and enjoy the match peacefully, noting that the international fixture is a matter of national pride. He warned that any disturbances would be dealt with strictly according to the law. Authorities also welcomed international visitors and requested local spectators to extend courtesy and hospitality to all visiting fans.
