The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has strongly condemned the recent attacks allegedly carried out by the United States in Venezuela and the reported move to take Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife into US custody.

In a statement issued today, the JVP said it firmly opposes what it described as an unlawful intrusion by the United States into Venezuela, a free and sovereign nation. The party stated that the abduction of a President elected by the Venezuelan people, along with his spouse, amounts to a serious violation of international law and national sovereignty.

The JVP emphasized that, as with any independent and sovereign country, the authority to decide Venezuela’s future and determine its leadership rests solely with the people of Venezuela. The statement stressed that no foreign power has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of another nation or undermine the democratic will of its citizens.

The party further noted that such actions threaten global peace and stability and called on the international community to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and democratic rights of all nations.

The full statement reaffirmed the JVP’s opposition to imperialist interventions and expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela in defending their right to self-determination.
