The Sri Lanka Navy has commenced investigations into a suspected consignment of narcotics recovered from Naorunna Beach in Thalalla, Matara, this morning (24).
According to the Navy, 10 sacks and 11 travel bags suspected of containing narcotics were discovered during a joint operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Coast Guard.
The operation was launched following information received by Coast Guard officers that a consignment of narcotics was being transported by boat.
The Navy said the suspects had abandoned the bags on the beach and fled the scene.
The recovered items are currently being assessed to determine their contents.
