The millimeter-sized weapon, manufactured in Abu Dhabi, along with three live bullets, was recovered and taken into police custody. The arrested suspect is a close associate of Sirinatha Pathiranahennalage Chaminda Ravi Jayanath, alias Dematagoda Chamindanamatha, a powerful drug trafficker and organized criminal currently held under the death penalty in Boossa Prison’s high-security zone.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the CID, the firearm came to light during the suspect’s arrest at his residence in Samagipura, Mattakkuliya, Colombo 15, based on prior intelligence. The weapon was reportedly buried in a bag in the forest behind the Sameetpura Sports Field, following the suspect’s instructions.
Police noted that this firearm is unique, as it can fire two bullets simultaneously and has not yet been used by security forces in Sri Lanka. During questioning, the suspect admitted that he received the weapon from his brother, known as ‘Chappa,’ who is abroad.
The suspect is reportedly the main accused in the shooting deaths of gang members Chooty Ukkung and Anamalu Ranga in the Mattakkuliya area. The Illegal Assets Investigation Division is also probing him in connection with Rs. 20 million in allegedly illicit wealth.
The CID continues to investigate the suspect and his links to organized crime and illegal firearms networks.
