The arrest was carried out yesterday (25) by officers of the Western Province Southern District Crime Division in the Talahena area, within the Malabe Police Division. During the raid, officers recovered 05 grams and 430 milligrams of the drug Ice and a counterfeit foreign passport in the suspect’s possession.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect is wanted in connection with the shooting death of the former local government politician, which occurred on August 2, 2022, near the Mulleriyawa Hospital. Police believe the suspect had acted as the motorcycle rider who transported those involved in the shooting.
Further checks uncovered that two open warrants have also been issued against the suspect in relation to separate cases currently pending before the Colombo High Court.
The Western Province Southern District Crime Division is continuing further investigations into the murder and related offences.
