Health officials have cautioned that road accidents are likely to increase during the festive season and urged the public to be more vigilant when travelling.
Addressing a press conference held at the Health Education Bureau yesterday, health authorities said the surge in travel, long-distance journeys, driver fatigue, speeding, and careless behaviour during festive celebrations often leads to an increase in traffic-related accidents.
They stressed the need for strict adherence to road safety laws, refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol, ensuring vehicles are in good condition, and taking sufficient rest during extended journeys. Health officials further appealed to both motorists and pedestrians to act responsibly and remain alert to prevent avoidable injuries and loss of life during the festive period.
