The flight, numbered 3Z-7648, departed from Warsaw, Poland, and landed in Katunayake at 10.10 p.m. The service was operated using a Boeing 737 aircraft, carrying 180 passengers along with nine crew members.
Following this inaugural operation, Smartwings is scheduled to operate weekly flights from Warsaw to Katunayake every Tuesday until 15 March 2026, as part of its winter schedule.
Passengers arriving on these flights are expected to tour several popular tourist destinations in Sri Lanka, including the coastal areas, Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Yala.
The Polish tourists who arrived on the inaugural flight were warmly welcomed at the Katunayake Airport by officials of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and representatives of Jetwing Travels, marking a boost to Sri Lanka’s winter tourism season.
