Special traffic arrangements have been implemented in the Kelaniya area today due to the procession organized by Helena Girls’ College, held in parallel with the annual Duruthu Maha Festival of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara.

Police said that vehicular movement on several roads in Kelaniya will be restricted from 3.00 p.m. onwards.

Accordingly, all vehicles travelling along the Biyagama Road are required to divert near the Biyagama Road entrance of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara and proceed via Gangawella Road, passing through the Kelanisiri Roundabout.

Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Peliyagoda towards Biyagama can proceed via the Kelanisiri Roundabout, along Gangawella Road, and through Biyagama Road towards the Vahalkada area, police said.

The section of Vihara Mawatha at the Kelanisiri Roundabout, along which the procession will pass, will be completely closed from 3.00 p.m.

In addition, vehicles entering Varagoda Road from Peliyagoda Pattiya Junction, New Kandy Road, and near Pattiya Junction are advised to use the Thorana Junction as an alternative route.

Police urge motorists to be mindful of the traffic diversions and use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
