Commuters using the Colombo Outer Expressway will experience smoother travel from yesterday (22) with the removal of toll collection at the Kerawalapitiya Interchange.
The Road Development Authority (RDA) said the move was implemented to ease traffic congestion and eliminate delays caused by vehicles having to stop twice to obtain and pay for toll tickets. Under the new system, motorists entering the Katunayake Expressway from the Outer Circular Road can now pass through the Kerawalapitiya Interchange without stopping.
The toll ticket issuance system at the interchange, which has been in operation for nearly ten years, has been completely abolished. Drivers entering the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway are now required to obtain tickets only at the Seeduwa and Peliyagoda interchanges.
However, vehicles exiting the expressway at the Kerawalapitiya Interchange will continue to pay the applicable exit fee.
Authorities emphasized that the revised system will not result in any increase in toll charges and is expected to significantly reduce delays, enabling commuters to reach their destinations more efficiently.
