Misty conditions can be expected during the early morning hours at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Colombo, Kalutara, Badulla, Galle and Matara districts.

The Department of Meteorology has released the weather forecast for Tuesday, December 23, indicating mixed conditions across the island.

A few showers are expected in the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may develop at a few locations in the Ratnapura, Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly fair weather is forecast to prevail in other parts of the country.

Sea Areas Around the Island

Light showers are likely in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa. Showers or thundershowers may also occur at a few places in the sea areas from Balapitiya to Matara via Galle during the evening or night.

Winds will be north-easterly to northerly in direction, with speeds ranging between 25 and 35 kmph. Wind speeds may increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Balapitiya to Mannar via Colombo and Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Balapitiya to Mannar via Colombo and Puttalam, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be rough at times, while other sea areas around the island will be moderate.

The Department of Meteorology warns that temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, and advises naval and fishing communities to remain vigilant.
