Development expert M. G. Hemachandra assumed duties as the new Chairman of the Urban Development Authority (UDA) on December 20. Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara, along with a group of officials, was present at the occasion.
Mr. Hemachandra brings extensive experience in development planning and project implementation, having previously served as a Senior Specialist and Loan Project Manager at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Sri Lanka. His professional background includes expertise in development project analysis, formulation, economic development planning and implementation.
He has also held key positions at the National Water Supply and Drainage Board and the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau. At present, he serves as Vice President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Engineers.
Mr. Hemachandra holds two degrees in Infrastructure Management and Civil Engineering. Authorities expressed confidence that his experience, knowledge and technical expertise will make a significant contribution to strengthening Sri Lanka’s urban development sector.
