India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar arrived in Sri Lanka on an official state visit a short while ago, serving as Special Envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet Sri Lankan leaders to discuss post-cyclone recovery and bilateral cooperation.

According to India’s External Affairs Ministry, the visit underscores India’s Neighbourhood First policy and follows Operation Sagar Bandhu, India’s swift humanitarian response to Cyclone Ditwah, which struck Sri Lanka on 27 November 2025, causing widespread devastation. India was the first country to deploy disaster response teams, naval assets, airlifts of relief supplies, medical support, and engineering assistance.

The visit is expected to focus on continued reconstruction support and strengthening regional cooperation, particularly in maritime and disaster-response initiatives.
