It was revealed that the man who was killed in a shooting incident in Ambalangoda this morning (22) was the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) team that contested the Ambalangoda Municipal Council at the last local government election.
Former Member of Parliament and Ambalangoda SJB Chief Organizer Shan Wijayalal de Silva identified the victim as Kosala Silva, stating that he was a strong and active member of the SJB in the Ambalangoda area and across the Galle District.
He said that this was the second fatal shooting involving SJB activists in Ambalangoda within recent weeks. Another SJB activist, Chirantha Warushawithana, was shot dead in the area a few weeks ago.
He added that Warushawithana had also been included on the SJB’s concurrent list for the Ambalangoda Urban Council at the last local government election.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
