Around 30,000 families in the Kandy District have received a Rs. 25,000 government grant to clean houses damaged by the recent disaster, according to Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawattha.
He said village-level officers are distributing the funds in coordination with the relevant Divisional Secretariats. Measures are also underway to provide livelihood assistance of between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 50,000 to those affected.
The District Secretary further noted that financial assistance is being provided to help families replace household items. A sum of Rs. 50,000 will be allocated for the purchase of kitchen appliances in severely damaged houses, while Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 will be granted to assist affected schoolchildren.
