The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation held a high-level meeting to tackle the rising container congestion during the year-end peak season. The session, chaired by Minister Anura Karunathilaka, focused on accelerating container clearance processes.

It was decided that low-risk containers will be fast-tracked at the newly established Bloumendhal yard, with Sri Lanka Customs overseeing the operations. At present, about 8,000 containers are awaiting clearance.

Officials were directed to closely monitor the process, and a follow-up review meeting will be held in four days to evaluate progress. The meeting included senior representatives from Sri Lanka Customs, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.
