SriLankan Airlines has officially commenced operations at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport in Malé, with effect from December 17, 2025.
To mark the transition, Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) hosted a ceremonial welcome for passengers arriving on flight UL101 at Terminal 1, as well as for those departing on flight UL102 from the same terminal.
The event was graced by His Excellency Mohamed Rizvi Hassen, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, who attended as the Chief Guest. Senior officials from MACL and SriLankan Airlines were also present at the occasion.
SriLankan Airlines currently operates three daily flights to Malé via its Colombo hub, offering seamless connectivity to a global network of 117 destinations across 59 countries. The airline said the modern, state-of-the-art facilities at Terminal 1 are expected to enhance passenger comfort, ensure smoother travel experiences, and further support the growth of tourism to the Maldives, while strengthening air connectivity between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
