More than 47,000 people have been arrested for drug-related offences in raids carried out across the island under the ‘Ratama Ekata’ national operation aimed at eradicating drugs from the country.

The Police said that a total of 47,703 suspects were taken into custody during raids conducted from October 30 until yesterday.

Police also seized large quantities of narcotics during the operation, including 276 kilograms and 374 grams of heroin, 1,002 kilograms and 923 grams of ice, and 1,411 kilograms and 936 grams of cannabis, along with stocks of other drugs such as hashish.

According to the Police Media Division, detention orders have been obtained for 1,081 suspects to facilitate further investigations. In addition, 1,130 suspects have been referred for rehabilitation programmes.

Police further stated that investigations into illegal assets have been initiated against 47 suspects as part of the ongoing operation.
