The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved an emergency disbursement of SDR 150.5 million (approximately US$206 million) to Sri Lanka under the Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI), equivalent to 26 percent of the country’s quota.

In a statement, the IMF said the assistance is aimed at addressing urgent balance-of-payments and fiscal pressures triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, which struck Sri Lanka on November 28, causing widespread damage and economic disruption.

The emergency funding is expected to support the government’s immediate needs, including disaster response, reconstruction efforts, and stabilization of the economy, as the country recovers from the catastrophic impact of the cyclone.

The IMF reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Sri Lanka during this challenging period as authorities work to restore livelihoods and strengthen economic resilience.
