Steps have been taken to suspend Dr. Rukshan Bellana, who was serving as the Acting Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.
According to a letter issued by the ministry, it states that preliminary investigations conducted by the Ministry of Health have revealed that Dr. Bellana, while holding a responsible position as a government medical officer, had made statements to the media without obtaining prior approval. These statements were reportedly made through various media outlets and are said to have created a controversial situation in the country, leading to public unrest.
The Ministry further noted that, based on these findings, steps have been initiated to suspend Dr. Bellana, and that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in the future following due process.
