A post-mortem examination of the elephant was conducted on 17 December by Pandulagama Wildlife Veterinarian Udeshika Madhuwanthi. The autopsy report is scheduled to be submitted to the court tomorrow.
Following a fact report presented to the court regarding the incident, the Magistrate instructed that statements be recorded from a person captured on video in connection with the burning incident. A detailed report on the suspects is also expected to be submitted tomorrow.
The Mihintale Police have arrested three suspects so far and are actively investigating to apprehend an additional individual.
The case was filed jointly by the Wildlife Department and Mihintale Police, highlighting the authorities’ commitment to investigating wildlife crimes.
