The decision was taken following a discussion held on 18 December between the Governor of the Central Province, Sarath Abeykoon, and provincial education authorities.
Accordingly, schools in the Central Province are also scheduled to remain closed on the 22nd of this month.
Central Province Education Secretary Madhupani Piyasena said that schools are expected to resume on the 29th of December as originally planned, following the Christmas holidays.
Authorities have advised parents and students to remain attentive to further announcements depending on weather conditions.
