As a result, water levels of the Mahaweli River may rise, and residents living in low-lying areas along the river are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
Meanwhile, the Kala Wewa and Kandalama reservoirs, which belong to the Kala Wewa basin, are also spilling. In addition, water levels at the Bowatenna, Ibbankatuwa, Moragahakanda, and Kalu Ganga reservoirs have reached maximum capacity.
The Mahaweli Authority further stated that the Maduru Oya Reservoir is also at its maximum water level and may begin spilling in the coming days.
