The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kuliyapitiya Police Station Crime Branch has been transferred following allegations that he assaulted an individual, police said.

Accordingly, the officer has been transferred from the Kuliyapitiya Police Station to the Mawathagama Police Station, according to the Police Media Spokesperson’s Office.

The move follows the circulation of a video on social media in recent days, which shows a police officer in civilian clothing assaulting a person staying at a house.

An investigation into the incident has been launched under the direct supervision of the Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the North Western Province. Investigations revealed that the police officer seen in the video was the OIC of the Kuliyapitiya Police Station Crime Branch.

Police stated that steps have been taken to transfer the officer concerned, and disciplinary action is also expected to be taken against him in the future.
