Akalanka Peiris tops FINA Points at national swimming short course championship

Sri Lankan swimming champion Akalanka Peiris has emerged as the highest FINA points scorer of the Sri Lanka National Swimming Team following an outstanding performance at the National Short Course Swimming Championships.

Peiris secured this achievement by earning 716 FINA points in the men’s 50m backstroke event. Currently based in Melbourne, Australia, he is undergoing advanced training as part of his international preparation.

Competing in Sri Lanka after a gap of three years, Peiris took part in the Junior and Senior National Short Course Swimming Championships, where he was crowned the Men’s National Champion. He delivered an exceptional performance, winning a total of five medals.

His gold medals came in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, and the 200m individual medley, while he also claimed a silver medal in the 100m individual medley.

Peiris’ achievements mark a significant milestone for Sri Lankan swimming, highlighting his continued progress and potential on the international stage.
