A high-level discussion was held at the Ministry of Transport premises yesterday, with Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku and Secretary to the Ministry W.W.S. Mangala participating alongside representatives from Emirates Airlines.
During the meeting, officials exchanged views on key issues in Sri Lanka’s aviation sector and airport facilities. Special gratitude was expressed to Emirates Airlines for its long-standing partnership with the country and for maintaining uninterrupted flights during challenging periods.
The airline highlighted that it had increased its air capacity by 36% since January 2024 and outlined plans for major investments to modernize airport terminal facilities in the future.
The ministerial-led team emphasized that, in line with government policy, airport terminal developments will be conducted through formal tender processes to ensure transparency. It was also announced that the existing agreement with Emirates Airlines has been temporarily extended until March 31, 2026.
Both parties concluded the discussion by reaffirming their commitment to further strengthen the long-term relationship between Sri Lanka and Emirates Airlines.
