A police officer attached to the Nilaveli Police Station was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) said.
The arrest followed a complaint from a Nilaveli resident, who alleged that the officer demanded and received the money in exchange for issuing a police report needed to prepare documents for overseas travel.
The officer was taken into custody at the complainant’s residence during a CIABOC operation and is scheduled to appear before the Kuchchaveli Tourist Magistrate’s Court today (17).
