The Government of Sri Lanka has secured a USD 200 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to continue the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Program (MWSIP) – Stage 2, a priority project aimed at enhancing food and water security and building climate resilience.

The loan will cover a portion of the total project cost.

MWSIP Stage 2 comprises two main components: completing the North Central Province canal irrigation infrastructure and establishing commercial agricultural development with improved distribution networks.

The loan agreement was signed at the Treasury in Colombo by Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, and Mr. Takafumi Kadono, Country Director of the ADB Sri Lanka Resident Mission, on behalf of the Asian Development Bank.
