Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered the release on bail of former Minister C.B. Ratnayake, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for offences under the Money Laundering Act.
The Magistrate granted bail on two surety bonds of Rs. 2 million each and imposed a ban on Ratnayake’s foreign travel.
C.B Ratnayake, who previously held portfolios including the Sports Ministry, the Ministry of Private Transport, and the Ministry of Livestock, had been remanded until today. He is being investigated by the Assets Investigation Division of CIABOC under Section 23(a)(1) of the Bribery Act for allegedly illegally obtaining more than Rs. 573 million.
