SLBC Marks 100 years today The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), the country’s pioneer in electronic media, celebrates its centenary today (16).
As part of the celebrations, an all-night devotional sermon and a Sangha Dakshina on the subject of Siaknamak will be held at the SLBC premises.
A group of MPs and ministers, including Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, along with journalists, engineers, experts, scholars, and staff who contributed to the corporation’s progress, are scheduled to participate.
The Venerable Thero is also expected to walk from the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute under the Muthukudda to the SLBC. Sri Lanka’s radio services were officially launched on 16 December 1925 by British Governor Hugh Clifford. Initially part of the Department of Telecommunications, the service was reorganized on 1 October 1949 as Radio Ceylon, which later became the SLBC.
